Dear Friends,

I am honored to introduce the Gut Microbiome Foundation, a mission-driven organization dedicated to advancing research, education, and innovation in gut health. Our foundation was born out of a simple yet profound belief: the microbiome is the cornerstone of human health, and by understanding and nurturing it, we can transform lives.

For too long, gut health has been overlooked in mainstream medicine, despite its critical role in digestion, immunity, mental well-being, and chronic disease prevention. At the Gut Microbiome Foundation, we are committed to bridging the gap between cutting-edge scientific discoveries and practical, real-world solutions.

We are only just beginning to understand the profound connection between the gut and the brain—a relationship that influences not just digestion, but mental health, cognition, immunity, and chronic disease. Groundbreaking research has shown that the microbiome plays a pivotal role in conditions ranging from anxiety and depression to neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune disorders.

The gut is not just where food is digested—it is a command center for overall health. The trillions of microbes within our digestive system produce neurotransmitters, regulate inflammation, and influence everything from mood to metabolism. The implications of this research are staggering, and yet, we have only scratched the surface.

The Gut Microbiome Foundation exists to:

Educate — Empower individuals and healthcare professionals with the latest evidence-based knowledge about microbiome health.

Advocate — Raise awareness about the importance of gut health in overall well-being, influencing policy and healthcare practices.

Support — Support groundbreaking research and novel approaches to gut health, from medical nutrition to microbiome-based therapeutics. Provide resources and community-driven initiatives for those suffering from gut-related conditions.

Millions of people struggle with gut health issues—from IBS and SIBO to autoimmune disorders and neurological conditions—often without clear guidance or effective solutions. Despite the critical role of the microbiome in these diseases, research remains underfunded and underexplored.

In light of significant budget cuts to the NIH, which have reduced funding for vital microbiome and gut-brain research, it is more important than ever to take action. The lack of sufficient federal support threatens to stall groundbreaking discoveries that could reshape the future of medicine. This urgent need has driven us to establish the Gut Microbiome Foundation—to ensure that critical research continues, awareness grows, and science-backed solutions reach those who need them most.

The future of medicine is not just in treating symptoms but in understanding the root causes of disease—many of which begin in the gut. We are at the tipping point of a scientific revolution in gut health, and we cannot afford to slow down now.

I invite you to join us—whether as a researcher, patient, clinician, advocate, or individual passionate about health. Together, we can ensure that the microbiome takes its rightful place at the center of medical innovation and public health.

Thank you for supporting this mission. The future of health starts in the gut microbiome, and together, we can make a lasting difference.

With gratitude,

Krystyna Houser
