Ginger Hot Toddy

Warm, soothing, and perfect for calming sinuses and settling digestion.  Adapted from Foodguides’ Low FODMAP Holiday Beverage recipes. 

Ingredients:

  • 16 fresh ginger slices, muddled

  • 4 cinnamon sticks

  • 3 tea bags (black or ginger)

  • 4 oz (½ cup) whiskey

  • 4 cups hot water

  • 4 tsp maple syrup to taste

  • 8 tsp lemon juice (or 1 lemon)

Preparation:

  1. Muddle the ginger slices in a mug.

  2. Add cinnamon stick, tea bag, whiskey, maple syrup, and hot water.

  3. Let the tea bag steep for at least 4 minutes.

  4. Add lemon juice and enjoy.

Makes 4 servings


Chai-Infused Vodka


A rich blend of traditional chai spices from the GoodLFE cookbook, designed with digestion in mind.

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz (2 cups) vodka

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • ½ teaspoon whole inner seeds of cardamom or 10 whole green cardamom pods

  • ¼ teaspoon whole fennel seeds

  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients in a pint sized mason jar. 

  2. Shake and cover with lid. 

  3. Store in pantry and shake daily. Drink is best used within a year of creation.

Makes 16 servings


Turmeric Golden Milk 


A soothing turmeric-based drink from the GoodLFE cookbook, crafted to support digestion and balance.

Ingredients

  • 3 inch piece of raw turmeric or 2 teaspoons dry turmeric

  • 1 inch piece of ginger

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 2 - 3 whole cloves

  • 2 - 3 ground peppercorns

  • 4 cups water or favorite milk or milk substitute

  • Maple, honey or sugar to taste

Preparation

  1. Simmer all ingredients except for sweetener over low heat for 20 minutes. Do not boil.

  2. Strain and sweeten to taste. 

  3. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat as needed.

Makes 4 to 5 servings


Low FODMAP Frozen Cosmo


A fruity, icy, alcohol-free drink from Maureen Petrosky’s Zero Proof cocktail book.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup orange seltzer water

  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice

  • ¼ cup  fresh orange juice, no pulp

  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice, strained

  • 2 lime wedges

  • Freezer-safe container

Preparation:

  1. Combine seltzer, cranberry juice, orange juice, and lime juice in freezer-safe container.

  2. Freeze for about 1 hour until slushy.

  3. Stir with a fork to break up ice crystals.

  4. Scoop into glasses.

  5. Garnish each with a lime wedge.

Makes 2 -3 servings


Low FODMAP Cranberry Cinnamon Swizzle


A simple, elegant, non-alcoholic drink that comes together in minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp cranberry juice

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • 2 cups ginger ale, ginger beer, or ginger sparkling water

  • Simple syrup, to taste

  • Fresh cranberries & bamboo skewer (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Pour cranberry juice into a glass.

  2. Add cinnamon and stir to combine.

  3. Top with ginger beverage.

  4. Sweeten with simple syrup if desired.

  5. Thread cranberries on a skewer for garnish.

Makes 3 - 4 servings
