Man with headache

When it comes to Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), the digestive symptoms are just the start. SIBO doesn’t just affect your gut – it can show up in all sorts of unexpected ways.

Below are some common non-digestive SIBO symptoms that can sneak up on you:

  • Fatigue: Feeling constantly drained? One of the most common non-digestive symptoms of SIBO is fatigue. Bacterial overgrowth can sabotage nutrient absorption leaving you feeling weak and worn out.

  • Skin issues: Eczema, rosacea, and acne are all common side effects of SIBO. When your gut isn’t functioning properly, your skin pays the price.

  • Brain fog: If you're struggling with concentration, memory, or confusion, SIBO could be the culprit. Due to the connection between your gut and brain, known as the gut-brain axis, gastrointestinal issues can impact brain function.

  • Joint and muscle pain: Inflammation caused by overgrown gut bacteria can lead to pain and stiffness throughout your body.

  • Mood changes: Depression and anxiety are often linked with SIBO. Due to the connection between your gut and brain, known as the gut-brain axis, gastrointestinal issues can impact brain function.

  • Headaches and migraines: While the cause of the connection between SIBO and headaches has yet to be discovered, there is evidence of a link between the two. SIBO and IBS
